Entry Definitions
1. Art & Innovative Quilts – Quilts made from
original or non-traditional designs with an emphasis on design innovation and
skill in the use of color, fabric, image, or shape. They step beyond tradition in construction
and appearance and do not replicate the work of others.
2.
Traditional
Quilts – Quilts based on traditional patterns and settings. If it’s not an art/innovative quilt, it’s a
traditional quilt!
3.
Pieced – Quilts
made primarily with standard piecing techniques either by hand or machine without
appliqué or embellishment.
4.
Appliqué – Quilts
made primarily using appliqué techniques either by hand or machine.
5.
Mixed Techniques
– Quilts that incorporate a combination of two or more techniques or styles
(piecing and appliqué, for example), where any one technique comprises 25% or
more of the quilt.
6.
Miniature Quilts
– Quilts that are a scaled-down version of a larger quilt design and bound;
blocks no larger than 4”.
7.
Machine-Embroidered
Quilts – Quilts made primarily using machine embroidery on the top.
8.
Hand-Embroidered
Quilts – Quilts made primarily using hand embroidery on the top.
9.
1st
Quilts – Quilts made by beginning quilters; typically, a person’s first quilt.
10. Group Quilts – Quilts made with the contributions of
three or more quilters, including round-robins, block exchanges, assemblages of
antique blocks or other group projects.
Please note: Only one ribbon per quilt will be awarded, and it will go
to the individual responsible for the entry.
11. 2007, 2008 & 2009 Challenge Quilts – Quilts made
for the 2007, 2008 or 2009 Hill ‘N Hollow quilt challenges.
12. Kits/Block-of-the-Month/Pre-Printed Panel – Quilts
made from a kit or other pattern where design and fabric choices are pre-selected
for the quilt maker. This includes
block-of-the-month quilts and quilts made using pre-printed panel fabrics.
13. Wearable Art, including jazzed-up sweats – Articles of
clothing made using quilting techniques.
Because the guild has sponsored classes teaching this technique, you may
enter garments that use a sweatshirt as a foundation.
14. Accessories, Home Décor/3-D Objects – Functional or
decorative quilted objects such as tablecloths, table runners, placemats (must
submit at least 2), Christmas tree skirt or stockings, door hangings, bags, and
boxes.
15. Bras for the Cause – Decorated bras created for a
silent auction benefitting Peitz Cancer Support House. More information about this category will be
presented at the Hill ‘N Hollow Quilters Guild April 2009 day meeting. Contact Barb Carlson or Jan Hickman for more
details.
16. Special Exhibits – Quilt tops and other examples of
projects created through the guild’s education programs, including classes and
workshops. This is a non-judged
category.
17. Other Non-judged Items – Quilted items other than Bras
for the Cause and Special Exhibits that the exhibitor wants to display but does
not want to have judged.
18. Professional quilter – Someone who quilts for others
in exchange for fees, goods or services.
